Tensions continue to rise as disagreements over the new jail site continue. The Bloomington City Council unanimously voted last December to reject the Monroe County commissioners’ request to build the jail on the southwest side of Bloomington.

However, problems with the current jail remain. Sheriff Ruben Marté has concerns over the condition and cleanliness of the current jail. He and members of the Community Justice Reform Committee are concerned about how these conditions will affect the health and safety of inmates.
